Making a Better You

What do we do in the morning?

We wake up, eat breakfast (maybe), and go to work. What is so special about the morning time?

We just need a cup of coffee to get us motivated and put on our “I love life” face. I don’t know about you, but I would hate to have a morning like that. I don’t. I make sure of it.

If you have something that you are passionate about, or something you want to start new, then you have every reason why your morning should be the most exciting part of your day. Why is that?

Your morning is the key to your success to being a better person. Every single one of us have some type morning "routine"; whether it is a benefit to our personal growth or not; whether it is structured, or unstructured.

From the time you slap your alarm and roll out of bed, to the moment you leave your house, you need to be setting yourself up for success.

Studies have shown (good ahead, Google it) that during our waking hours, we can accomplish more than we can in the afternoon or evening.

“Wait a minute...I actually do my best work at night”. Perhaps that is true with you (this article is not for you). For the rest of us, our most alert and energetic mind is during the first few hours of our day. Structuring a purposeful morning routine not only will structure your day, but will allow you to make the most of goals with energy and clarity of mind.

What can you do?

Get some paper out, or your digital notebook. Make a list of the things that you are (or even would be) excited about doing, or trying or reading, etc. What is it that you would like to do to make a better you - learn a new language, pick up a new hobby, or learn a new trade? Plan this into your morning routine each day of the week. The idea is to plan. Get out your calendar and look for availability and any free space in your schedule.

Perhaps you want to add more exercise into your life. Start with adding 30 minutes to your morning and devote that time to your interested method of exercise three days of your week. This may require you to wake up earlier in the morning. If you can keep this effort consistent, it will be worth waking up earlier.

It is important to take care of yourself. Make sure you, also, get to sleep the night before at an appropriate time.

This may not be as simple for some people and their schedule with work or family. Take a bird’s-eye-view of your weekly/daily schedule and find opportunity where you can make some low-impact changes to accommodate a new routine, and work on keeping this consistent.

Consistency, should be your first goal; not the quality or the amount. That will come later.

Keep it simple!

This is just the start of becoming a better you.
